Taxi drivers have a large share of responsibility for accidents caused when they stop their vehicle to allow the client get off and move fast for the next customer, without checking if the client has left safely. Such an accident happened eight years ago in Patras and Supreme Court acknowledged 80% fault of the taxi driver and 20% of the passenger.

Greece has the highest percentage of traffic accidents in Europe. Although fewer than 600 people are estimated to have lost their lives in traffic accidents in Greece in 2014, a smaller number compared to previous years, Greece continues to maintain one of the highest rates of fatal accidents in Europe, according to evidence presented in a conference, organized by the Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace and the Transport Institute of the National Center for Research and Technological Development.
Especially as the Head of Traffic Police of Thessaloniki, Brigadier General Theodore Tyrekidis, mentioned ten years ago, every year, we had about 2,500 deaths from traffic accidents. In 2013 we had under 800 and for 2014 it is expected to be below 600. With regard to the Prefecture of Thessaloniki, he noted, that in the eleven months of 2014 51 deaths were recorded from road traffic (in 2013 there were 59), from which 30% are due to accidents with pedestrians run over by motorcycles.

The July 2014 issue of Plaintiff Magazine discussed the usual evidence and injury issues related to pedestrian-car accidents. The article brings to light the litigation stages at which an expert can come in handy. In a pedestrian-car accident case, there are normally three stages to pay attention to when evaluating a plaintiff's injuries:
(1) initial impact, (2) trajectory (when pedestrian separates from a vehicle), (3) ground contact, such as sliding or rolling to the ground.

It can be traumatic enough to be involved in a Road Accident but if the person at fault for the accident turns out not to be insured to drive the vehicle or if the vehicle they are driving is stolen or even worse if the person responsible for the accident leaves the scene without providing their details, the whole incident can become even more upsetting.

Uninsured or untracked drivers can cause injuries to other drivers, passengers, cyclists, motorcyclists or pedestrians.

There are traffic accidents involving a vehicle for which there is documented disagreement between the insurance and the owner whether there is valid insurance coverage or not. The insurance could have been stopped or cancelled for various good reasons but the process or the legality is disputed and a court must issue a ruling.

The jurisprudence of the Greek Courts has held that the burst of a tyre which results in a car getting out of of its normal course does not constitute a case of force majeure, but just a case of luck (EA6727/1983 1984/ESygkD. 49 (53), 2434/1991 adim EA. EA 14159/1988 (adim).

The compensation stipulated by a court or agreed out-of-court consists of many different amounts associated with different causes. There are frequently asked questions about what really applies and in this article we try to gather and to present simplified and understandable data from many tax sources.

It seems that the plenum of the Supreme Court will eventually determine the amount of damages granted to the relatives of victims of uninsured cars. This compensation is provided by the Insurance Guarantee Fund of Liability from Car Accidents, a state company governed by private laws, under the auspice of Central Bank of Greece (see details at: Traffic Accidents in Greece with Uninsured, Stolen or Hit & Run drivers.).
The previous decision which determined the compensation ceiling to € 6,000 was deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court's Division IV.

Non-material damage or Moral damage or Non material Harm and Pain and suffering or Mental anguish or Mental Distress or Pretium Doloris are concepts that are often confused.
Although they have commonalities, their differences in the way in Greek law are handled are distinctive. Moral Damage (which is a broader concept) includes the Mental Distress (as narrower concept).
In an accident, apart from physical damage which is relatively easy to be defined, there are damages, such as non-material damages and mental anguish that a court must assess, Something that is not easy because it harms legitimate goods, such as the personality, the physical health and integrity, the reputation, the honor etc. of a person.

The definition of who was ultimately the driver in a car is not always clear. There are cases where the driver is ejected out of the vehicle and the co-driver remains in and moves during the collision to the driver's seat. The same applies to driver and passengers’ incineration in a fire caused by a traffic accident.
